Simple as That May 19, 2012

As parents of adopted children who struggle with attachment and relationship issues the picture below brings me to tears.  Tim's birthday was May 18th and we had a small family dinner. S had written him a letter for his birthday and it had the same effect on him. (Wish I had a shot of her face.)

This picture was taken a few short months after the kids came to live with us. The emptiness in S's eyes hurts my heart.

You are welcome to click on the card to read more, but part of what S had to say was this: I know we have butted heads in the midst of my teenage attitudes. But I always feel regret and sadness when the argument is over. I believe that my feelings of regret and sadness prove that I have a good relationship with my precious Daddy, which I am immensely happy about. I only wish for you to think of me as another one of your princesses.

Don't ever tell me that words don't have meaning. These words from a child that has felt abandonment, abuse, doubt, fear, hurt and intense anger will not be forgotten. She has conquered mountains and is dearly loved by our family.

Our story is here if  you want to read about our journey.
