I first saw this recipe on Life as Mom but it was originally from Recipezaar. I promise you, after you make these hamburger buns you will never want to go back to the cheap grocery store version. They are that good. Seriously.
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups milk, slightly warmed
1 beaten egg
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup white sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 3/4 cups bread flour
1 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
Directions:
- Place all ingredients in pan of bread machine according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Select dough setting.
- When cycle is complete, turn out onto floured surface.
- Cut dough in half and roll each half out to a 1" thick circle
- Cut each half in to six 3 1/2" rounds with bottom of a drinking glass as a cutter.
- Place on greased basking sheet equal distance apart and brush with melted butter.
- Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about one hour (or you can let it rise longer if you want).
- Bake at 350 degrees for 9-12 minutes.
The last time I made these buns I ended up making two batches. I have found with my bread machine that I need to check the status of the bread dough in the first ten minutes or so to see if the dough is "wet" enough or if it's too "wet" and I need to add a little extra flour. Temperature and humidity affect the dough texture. For my first batch the dough was too wet and it was too late for me to add extra flour. When I rolled the dough out it was extremely sticky and difficult to form into rounds. I wasn't sure if they would turn out well so I went ahead and prepared a second batch of dough. I ended up baking both batches and the first one did not rise as well and wasn't as light and fluffy. This was the first time I had a problem with the dough. My family, however, gobbled up both batches!
Serve with your choice of toppings and side dishes. Take my word for it, this recipe is worth a little bit of work.

Huh, I hadn't either for some reason. Do you just cut them apart at the end or are you making separate bottoms and tops? Can't quite tell. I'll have to try it!
ReplyDeleteHey, girl! You just slice the buns in half so with each batch you have 12 buns. Try it. It really is seriously good and my family will use them for sandwiches or toast or whatever. Actually kinda fight over them. If my kids fought, which you know they don't. Ha!
DeleteThis looks delicious! I can't wait to try it! : )
ReplyDeleteThose look fantastic!! YUM!
ReplyDeleteWow! These look fantastic. You're more brave than I. LOL Thanks for sharing at Church Supper. Have a blessed week & come back soon ~EMM
ReplyDeleteI make this recipe too, and it is yummy! If the dough is ever sticky again, you can wet your hands and it should help the dough not stick to your hands :) (I don't know how a little extra moisture would affect the final product, though--my guess is not too much?) Yours look delicious!
