Thank you so much for visiting my little corner of the blogosphere! What started out as a little family journal in 2008 has turned into a passion for sharing my life, faith, dreams and adventures as a homeschooling, crafty, bargain hunting, memory keeping mom of both biological and adopted children.
Our history is scattered throughout my postings, but the basic story is we have two biological kids, now 23 and 19, and three adopted siblings, now 22, 14, and 13. The last 12 years of our lives have been spent learning about the effects of RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder), mental and physical abuse and abandonment inflicted on the hearts of our children. Our journey has been filled with exhaustion, stress, anxiety, fear and ignorance while challenging our minds, bodies and spiritual lives. Our children have worked hard to be free of the bonds of the lies they believe about themselves from their very beginnings, to know they have value and purpose. We try to live our lives with openness while still protecting details of our children's lives that would be hurtful or shameful for them to share.
Why do I share these difficulties of our lives regarding adoption? Because we are all adopted children of God, and there are many families living with the effects of these abuses brought into their homes through their chosen children. My passion is reaching out to hurting, discouraged moms, regardless of the situation, and giving them hope that they are not alone. As wives and mothers we face great challenges both in our homes and in the world. I hope this blog will be an encouragement to all who read.
Is there anything to my life besides RAD? Absolutely! I have been homeschooling 18 years and have a few more to go. I guess I'm eclectic in my approach, using some standard texts and programs while identifying and responding to the unique needs of my children. I desire to teach my children how to think, make good decisions and walk with God to discern His plan for their lives. An education without character building and real life skills is knowledge without heart.
I also love to scrapbook (I'm a huge fan of Project Life), have a newfound interest in decorating and love any and all things thrifty. I don't particularly love to cook, but I do love sharing tried and true family recipes and amazing new ones found on Pinterest. I'm learning to be a better photographer, and I fight valiantly to learn that necessary evil, the computer. My faith in God is the foundation from which comes all creative and beautiful things.
Thanks for joining me in this adventure called blogging. I hope you'll make yourself at home! To contact me: click on your choice of the icons on the right column, and I will be happy to connect with you and share your stories and dreams.

ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for the question. I have not added the ability to subscribe via email but you can subscribe via your reader (click on the rainbow looking button on my side bar and follow the steps) or you can send me a personal email via the email button. Hope to eventually add the email subscription capabilities!
DeleteWhat a wonderful blog! I'm so glad to have found you. I love the way you write and your honesty about home schooling and all it's imperfections (i'm home schooling my four kiddos).
